Course Syllabus
CHEMISTRY 101 Course:
The course is design as an internet course with all testing online. The CHEM 101 labs are completed at home. Review sessions through Zoom are optional. These sessions will be recorded and posted on Canvas for those that cannot attend.

Note that the calendar is for general scheduling with all course meeting and dues dates. Online review meetings may also be scheduled or requested using Zoom. The due dates are found below.
GRADING AND GENERAL INFORMATION:

Standard Grading - Total Point Average

90+%=A; 80 to 89%=B; 70 to 79%=C; 60 to 69%=D; <60%=F

Final Grade = 85% Quiz Score + 15% Lab Score

The Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) will automatically enter a grade of zero (0) for all assignments and quizzes submitted after the due date and time. You may still complete the assignment or quiz, but there may be a reduction in points for late submissions per the discretion of the instructor.

CHEM 101 LAB Note: You must complete and submit 8 labs and successfully complete the tests to pass the course. A final course grade of "F" will be reported if this requirement is not met.

- Connect is the publisher's online homework and study system. While we will not have any official assignments in Connect, you are welcome to use it as a study tool.
- Amazon also rents textbooks!
- Note that the ISBN may differ from the College's edition. The College version is customized to CCP and may be used for CHEM 101/103 and CHEM 102/104.

Students with Disabilities

CHEM 101 LAB INFORMATION:
Lab Report requirements:
- Cover page
- Purpose - brief reason the lab is being performed.
- Concepts - write up two concepts reviewed in the textbook. Use full sentences for full credit!
- Conclusion - Brief discussion of lab, findings, errors, etc.
- Data pages - documentation used to record lab results with calculations.
- Data Sheets
- Including any pre and/or post lab questions. Confirm with your instructor which questions are required.
Lab Submissions:
- Submit the lab reports to the Instructor using the following methods:
- Each lab is set up as a “quiz” allowing you to enter (copy/paste) the lab cover report online. Attach the data sheet as an MS Word or PDF file
- Email the lab using Canvas email
- Consult with your Instructor if you encounter any issue in meeting this requirement.
- Each lab is graded on a 10 point basis.
- Lab reports not submitted by the due date will be automatically assigned a grade of zero (0) by Canvas.
- ANY LAB REPORT SUBMITTED AFTER THE DUE DATE IS CONSIDERED LATE! Late reports will be accepted up to 1 week late, however there will be a 10% late penalty.
The dates are posted in the Syllabus tab or Canvas Calendar or on the Summarized Schedule PDF. This is a list and completion order of the labs we will complete this term. Notice that some labs appear to be missing or out of order. The number of labs was reduced for the accelerated summer course and the order changed to match with the lecture material.
