Course Overview

This is a seven week summer session hybrid course, it will be your responsibility to participate in many of these activities outside of the scheduled hours for the course. You will be responsible for covering the same material in the 14 week version of the course. As the semester progresses, it will be to your advantage to read ahead and be prepared for the topic. The reference material in the modules will be available for your review throughout the semester. We begin this week by first going over the class Syllabus. The syllabus is the binding contract that instructors have with tier students. There are two major reading activities this week. The first is to read Chapter 1 in our courses textbook. This chapter will prepare you for the weekly quiz for this week and the two discussion topics for the week. To get full credit, when participating in a discussion forum, you must first post your own unique contribution, and then post on at least two other student's contribution to the discussion.

This is a Hybrid Course. In this Hybrid Version on the course, it will be your responsibility to read the chapters in the textbook, review the lecture slides, and review any additional supplement documents in the assigned module outside of the face to face class time. The in class activities will primarily focus on applied activities to reinforce the concepts covered in the textbook. These activities include the in class practice assignments and lab time to review problems that you are having in any applied assignment. The quizzes and exams are to be done outside of the face to face classroom time. You are expected to do Assignments outside the face to face class time.

Course Description

Computer Information Systems 205 - Database Management Systems 4 credits (8 hours lecture, 2 hours lab per week)

This course provides an introduction to the design and implementation of relational data base management systems using Structured Query Language (SQL). The course covers fundamental data base design and implementation techniques and provides hands-on exercises for applying the techniques to real-world problems through the use of database management software such as Microsoft Access and MySQL.

Prerequisites: CIS 103.
