General Class Policy

 

Class attendance is required and graded in Courses

 

 Absence in days of quizzes,  and/or final will result in a zero points

 

Important due dates for homework, quizzes, etc will be communicated through the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).

Proper class etiquette is expected. These include

  • Paying attention to class lecture
  • Answering to questions
  • Not playing video games or browsing other websites
  • In synchronous online sections, muting yourself when not asking any questions
  • Respective your classmate's/teammates' views
  • In synchronous online sections, not turning on your camera without wearing shirts

 

True or False: In synchronous online sections, students are expected to keep their cameras always on unless they opt out for personal or privacy reasons. TRUE

 

 

Zoom classes and conferences may be recorded. Your attendance will imply your consent to be recorded. You should let your instructor know beforehand if you object or choose not to be recorded.

 

There will be no make-up for missed quizzes, homework, or Final exam. Unless you get prior 'written' (e.g., email works) permission from the instructor for valid reasons (e.g., medical, emergency, religious holidays, etc.).

 

 

You should provide at least 24 hours ahead before writing permission from the instructor if you are going to miss an exam or homework for valid reasons.

 

 

Students are permitted to dispute graded materials (e.g., homework, quizzes, or final exam) are allowed.

 

How long after the graded materials (e.g., homework, quiz, or final exam) are handed over, do you think you can dispute?  The appropriate time to dispute a published grade for an assignment is seven days.

 

Students need to schedule appointments to join the virtual  Zoom meeting room during the assigned office hours for the course. Students should schedule appointments by email.

 

Students can also schedule Zoom Meetings to meet the instructor outside the scheduled office hours. Students should request Zoom meetings outside of the scheduled office hours by email.

 

There will be no scaling of the final grade.  Final Grades will be determined by the grading rubric listed in the course syllabus

 

There will be plenty of 'bonus' points available throughout the course.  The Bonus Points will be provided using a collection of Extra Credit Assignments.

 

 

There is an overall 5% - 10% grade percentage reserved for class attendance and participation. Assuming you attend 100% of the classes, you'll get these 5% - 10% percentage points toward your final grade.

 

 

Active class participation may include the following activities:

 

  1. Asking questions to the instructor
  2. Answering when the instructor asks a question
  3. Interrupting the instructor for clarification
  4. Actively join in group discussions in the 'breakout' rooms
  5. In online courses that are synchronous, trying to keep your cameras on - all the time
  6. Participate in online surveys, class activities

 

 

Beyond the class meetings, during its designated meeting times during the week - how much additional time do you think you need to study for this course in a given week?  The answer to this question is at least 9 additional hours

 

 

Academic Integrity is very important. Students should not attempt to cheat in any homework,  quizzes, or final exam.
