Accessing the Digital Version of the Textbook

As I listed in earlier announcements and in the course syllabus, all students who register for the CIS 205 course pay a course fee to have All-Inclusive access to the Cengage Mind Tap Service.  In this course, access to the digital version of the course's textbook is included with the Mind Tap access.  Students will not need access to the course textbook during the first week of the semester.  All assignments and software downloads and configurations are not connected to the course's assigned textbook.  I am providing supplementary reading material and guided video tutorials for the applied practice assignments published for week 1.

Starting next week, the first six database quizzes up until midterm will be connected to the course's textbook. Below are instructions on how to access the digital version of the course's text through Canvas.

In the Modules section of Canvas, you can use the "Module 1 Read" link in the "Introduction to Database Management Systems" Module to access the Mind Tap service.  Once in the Mind Tap service, you can access the digital versions of the chapters of the textbook.

There are a couple of ways to access the textbook once in Mind Tap.  One way is to click on the Full Book Icom on the right side of the screen once in Mind Tab.  It will be the Blue Rectangular Icon.  Another way is to click on the “Part 1: Database Concepts” link on the left side of the screen in Mind Tap.  This will open a selection where you can choose Chapters 1 or 2 to get started for the first weeks of the semester.  All of the book chapters in this area are segmented into Parts 1 through 6.  Different parts have different configurations of chapters.

Currently, there is a configuration issue with the All Inclusive Access.  I have notified Cengage of the problem.  This issue has occurred in previous semesters.  It may take a few days for the Cengage representatives to clear up the problem.  This has been the process and time frame in the past.  The issue is causing Mind Tap to request students to pay for access.  Students should not pay for access.  You have already paid when you registered for the course.

Until the issue is cleared, students can select the temporary grace period option when accessing the Mind Tap through the "Module 1 Read" link.  This option will provide temporary access to the textbook for a week or two until the problem is resolved
